Part II: Cemeteries in the town of Milo

Old Himrod Cemetery: Notes

Himrod cemeteries Himrod was settled long before Grove Mount was started up in 1876; this is the original burying ground for the hamlet, sometimes called the Pioneer Cemetery. When read, it was in miserable condition, after many years' neglect. Nowadays, however, it is maintained by the town, which keeps it mowed and clear of brush, so at least the stones remaining can be read.

Besides the many stones which were just old, and hence hard to read, many others were broken or fallen, probably by repeated vandalism. A fair number were under drifted leaves, and had to be rediscovered.

Several old readings were used to augment this list. These would account for the many instances where we have a reading but no stone. Also used were the records of the Himrod (First Baptist) Church, which gave us dates, as well as a few names.
