Yates County Cemetery Project
Part I: Cemeteries in the town of Benton

Hoxter cemetery

This "lost" cemetery is marked on the 1876 atlas map of Benton near the Fergusons Corners intersection. It was the burial place of members of the Hoxter family, who were moved after the death of Margaret Hoxter to the cemetery at Gorham.

The place where the cemetery once was is clearly visible, or was at this writing. It is a clump of trees on a knoll above the road near a slight curve.

The readings were taken from a list of the Gorham Cemetery, and confirmed and corrected from other records.
